Adoption from China

Thank you for your interest in our international adoption program in China. We hope you will find this an informative resource to answer any frequently asked questions and as a general guide through the application process.

In 1979, country overpopulation caused China to impose a strict One-Child Policy. Due to cultural norms, males are valued for carrying on the family name and financially providing for older parents. Because of this policy, 99% of children available for adoption are females. Children become eligible for adoption through abandonment. The children receive care in government run orphanages. Foster care programs have recently been implemented in some areas of China

ABC Adoption is proud to be a network agency with Spence-Chapin for our China program. Spence-Chapin is a non-profit full service adoption agency operating out of New York since 1908. In 1992, They were one of the first of four agencies approved by the Chinese government to facilitate adoptions between China and the United States. Due to their impeccable reputation in China, we are honored to facilitate adoptions with them.
