Adoption from Guatemala
**Important Note: Due to uncertainties in Guatemalan adoptions as a result of the Hague Convention and potential new legislation in Guatemala, ABC is not presently accepting applications for the Guatemala program. If you would like to be informed when the program reopens, please send your email address to hwilliams@abcadoption.org.**
Over the past several years, adoptions from Guatemala have steadily increased. Over recent years, Guatemala has ranked third in the number of children issued US immigration visas. ABC currently works a wonderful attorney's office and several private foster care homes in Guatemala. Guatemala has no state-run or social service programs. All adoptions occur once a birthmother relinquishes her child.
In our Guatemala program, you will receive regular medical and development updates as well as updated photos during the wait.
The children referred through ABC are placed in very loving, nurturing foster homes from the moment the birthmother signs relinquishment paperwork. For some children, this occurs upon discharge from the hospital after delivery. For others, any time up until they are 16 years of age. All foster families are expertly screened and maintain a high standard of care. Depending on the household size of the foster family, no more than two children are placed into their care. All foster families are required to have monthly medical examinations performed on the children by USCIS approved physicians.
